Seasonal Container Design
April 27, 2017
Among all the plants coming to life in our gardens, Pansies become available to show their cute little faces & help us get over those Winter blues.
Pansies, branches, tools and soil get packed in my truck & trailer and end in the containers greeting people with the first signs of Spring!
Pansies are a cool season annual just perfect for our tempermental April weather. They also smell so sweet and fresh, makes my heart sing.
They can take the cold down to freezing & even a little snow, as much as we don’t want to see that anymore!
Along with the pansies I like to pair Curly Willow, Yellow Twig Dogwood, Pussy Willow and Fantail Willow (these are featured in the close up pics).
These Spring branches are added as a vertical accent to keep the design in porportion with the container.
I prefer to mix two to three different kinds of branches to add more color and texture to the design.
I will leave these containers planted for Spring until just before Memorial Day when Summer annuals are available & then we start all over again!
Just for the record, I am not obligated to mention nor am I paid to endorse the following companies. I like to praise quality products when I find them:)
This year I purchased the Yellow Dogwood, Fantail Willow some of the Pussy Willow and lovely Curly Willow from a local gentleman at Prairie Edge Nursery in Arlington, MN
All the wonderful Pansies were grown at Gertens Greenhouse in Inver Grove Heights, MN
As always, I appreciate comments! Happy planting and don’t forget to smell the flowers:)
